Spreading dynamics on spatially constrained complex brain networks
<28> This paper in a cross-disciplinary journal (IF 4) is the first to study the role of curvature on neural activity spreading. Spreading on cortical surfaces is usually modelled on a flat two-dimensional surface inspired by studies of excitable media (Wiener & Rosenbluth, 1946). We show that spreading on curved surfaces is fundamentally different. This is crucial for applications to model spreading of activity in human brains that are highly convoluted. Such more realistic models form a cornerstone of recently funded £10m EPSRC/Wellcome Trust Innovation in Engineering for Health grant on developing new invasive techniques for epilepsy patients.
