Additional information

<13> This was the first work to apply mean value analysis to stochastic process algebra. The technique is shown to scale as well as recent fluid approximations, but is exact rather than approximate. This makes this result very significant for large scale model analysis. An earlier version of this paper was ranked top in the selection for the European Performance Engineering Workshop 2009. This revised version added an exact solution for multiple service types and extended experimental results. Subsequently other authors have considered approximate solutions of process algebra models based on mean value analysis.
