Belén Gopegui: The Pursuit of Solidarity in Post-Transition Spain

This 110,000-word monograph is based on 6 years of extensive research and was the first published on Belén Gopegui. Close textual analysis of Gopegui’s novels was undertaken from the perspective of the collective experience of Spain’s democratic transition and combined socio-historical and literary critical approaches with investigation of the applicability of theories of advanced modernity to the Spanish case. Given the dearth of academic work on Gopegui, the research necessitated extensive archival work and the monograph also offers detailed examination of many previously unexplored extra-literary texts, plus an interview with the author.
