Additional information

The product formulation and process design that follows the discovery of a new active pharmaceutical ingredient is based on empirical approaches due to lack of mechanistic models for powder flow and compaction. This paper lays out a complete and rigorous method for determining constitutive model parameters for powder compaction. It led to a keynote lecture at the Compaction Simulator Forum. The research was motivated by two industry projects funded by H.C. Starck Inc. (MA, USA) and is being taken forward by an on-going PhD project on the development of numerical constitutive laws for powder compaction.
