The anointed: evangelical truth in a secular age
The work division for this volume amounted to 60% from Randall Stephens and 40% from Karl Giberson. Stephens conducted the majority of research and writing. He contributed substantially to the introduction chapter and the concluding chapter . He also was the sole author of chapters 2, 3 and 4. He conducted much of the research for chapter 5: “A Carnival of Christians” as well. Stephens completed all of the archival research for the volume. He also conducted interviews across the country and held a writing and research fellowship for the project in San Diego, CA, in 2010.
This 110,000 word co-authored book is the first to make a serious examination of the intellectual world of evangelicals in America since the 1960s. Research for The Anointed drew on an extensive range of materials, including dozens of original interviews with conservative evangelical leaders; denominational records; letters; speeches; denominational publications; home school curriculum; polling data; and more, many of which had not been used before.
