Additional information

This agenda-setting paper presents new thinking to address long-standing challenges in the design and running of high temperature superconducting generators (HTSG). Previous commercial-scale developments have all been based on incremental advances to conventional synchronous generators. The novel generator design enables cheaper, more reliable and easily built machines which will result in reduced cost electricity generation. It has attracted interest from GE (Stuart Bradley, email available), who have sponsored a PhD project. The work has inspired further publications (DoI:10.1016/j.phpro.2012.06.039).
