Double-weighted statement

The research for this monograph reached across four countries and involved two dozen archives – from Aberdeen to Lambeth Palace, from Copenhagen to Munich, from Washington D.C. to Southern California. It exploited an enormous body of untapped manuscript sources, particularly in Germany and Denmark, which illuminate similarly unknown or under-appreciated sources in English repositories. The organisation and analysis of primary material and secondary scholarship (primarily in English and German, secondarily in Dutch and French) took five years.
