Sport and British Jewry: Integration, Ethnicity and Anti-Semitism, 1890-1970.
This 89,000 word volume is the first, and therefore only, analysis of the importance of sport in the modern history of the British-Jewish community. Whilst the main chapters cover the ‘peak’ ninety year period of Jewish involvement in the British sporting arena, the book’s chronological focus extends from the late eighteenth century through to the modern day. Containing 764 footnote references and an extensive bibliography, the publication is remarkable for its use of a broad variety of source materials, ranging from archival holdings (located in 11 different archives), newspapers, oral history interviews and Government papers, through to autobiographies and memoirs.
