A preprocessing optimization applied to the cell suppression problem in statistical disclosure control
This paper presents a method and procedure for protecting privacy in published data. It describes a pre-processing optimisation developed at UWE that reduces the computational effort involved in secondary cell suppression, allowing the protection of larger statistical tables prior to publication. It resulted from an EPSRC Mathematical CASE award co-funded with UK Office for National Statistics (ONS). This work has been included in the protection algorithms now being implemented at ONS and made available within the tauArgus software maintained by Central Bureau of Statistics, Netherlands, and used by national statistical agencies worldwide.
