The Philosophical Actor
The Philosophical Actor is a highly complex interdisciplinary examination of the relationship of over a hundred years' worth of Western acting theory, from Diderot and Stanislavski through to Uta Hagen and Sandy Meisner. These theories are tested against contemporary advances in neuroscience, philosophy of mind, cognitive and evolutionary psychology, Eastern performance practices and cognitive science. This is the first extended study ever attempted of the relationship between the actor’s emotion and cognition, and between the actor's cognitive and meta-cognitive function in playing a role, and was awarded ‘Outstanding Academic Title of the Year’ in 2011 by Choice Reviews Online.
