Additional information
A long-standing dilemma in using penalty methods in dynamics has been resolved, by applying mass-type penalties simultaneously with stiffness-type penalties. This breakthrough can help resolve accuracy and stability problems with interface and contact formulations that have long plagued the computational dynamics community. The formulation will be easy to implement in commercial software.
