Additional information

This paper presents an algorithm to design a reliable and energy efficient topology control algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN); many other researchers focus on achieving only energy efficiency. However, maximizing energy efficiency compromises network reliability, since they are inversely proportional to each other. The papers contribution is on the ‘Poly’ algorithm, which shows for the first time a methodology to maintaining reliability while achieving the energy efficiency. The presented performance metrics are important for the experimental realisation of WSNs. The outcome of this research has been implemented in a WSN setup in a botanical garden.
