Die drawn wood polymer composites. I. Mechanical properties
First paper to report the incorporation of waste wood particles in a thermoplastic matrix prior to molecular orientation to give much enhanced properties compared with conventional wood particle composites. This paper describes the processing and mechanical properties whilst subsequent papers deal with the micro-mechanical modelling and hydro/thermal stability of the product. This approach was taken up commercially by Dow Chemicals (to whom rights were assigned) and similar products are now being marketed by Eovations (contact: kevin.nichols@eotek.com). Research directly led to Royal Society funded workshop at IISc, Bangalore attended by UK and Indian experts on biocomposites (27-28 March 2012).
