A new tool for assessing human movement: the Kinematic Assessment Tool
This paper details a portable system for the measurement of human movement in fundamental neurological research which has been translated to clinical and educational applications for assessment of movement disorder. The research has led to a patent (PCT/GB2007/001931). It has driven ongoing multidisciplinary collaboration (j.williams@aberdeen.ac.uk, Aberdeen; CHLi@mednet.ucla.edu, UCLA) with citations in high-impact publications (Current Opinion in Neurology, Neuropsychologia). It is being used in the NHS ‘Born in Bradford’ study to help assess over 10000 children and will thus help inform UK health policy. The research has led to a commercial version, developed with Mulraney Group (Gerry.Mulraney@mulraney.com) and Scottish Enterprise.
