<21>The paper won best paper award at the top ACM conference on ubiquitous computing (16% acceptance rate). It promotes a new agenda for haptics research within a cultural context that differs significantly from the dominant framing of haptics primarily as navigational tools. An interdisciplinary team of researchers, artists and performers combined philosophical ideas with technological developments in robotics, engineering and HCI to radically rethink how sensors and haptic feedback could be designed to extend how blind and sighted people perceive and understand the world. The research cumulated in a 3-week long, award winning, theatre performance at the Battersea Arts Centre.
