Additional information

<26> The paper was the first to investigate how function can be automatically inferred from raw low-level 3D geometry. Technically, the paper presented an algorithm to infer motion of individual parts of mechanical assemblies starting from only a raw CAD model. It introduced novel computational techniques to visualize and convey the mechanical interactions, thus linking shape analysis with recent advances in cognitive psychology. The work has been featured as a research highlight in Communications of ACM (January 2013) and also been cited in the 2013 ACM SIGGRAPH Significant New Researcher award presented to Dr Mitra.
