Additional information

<20>This is the first paper to demonstrate that reproduction of eye gaze is an important determinant of the quality of avatar-mediated communication (AMC). Given the explosion in the use of AMC through computer games and worlds like Second Life, this is an important motivation for development of user tracking technologies beyond those supported by the current generation of cameras such as Microsoft Kinect. The paper provides a benchmark against which other telecommunication systems can be measured. There is new interest in this area, e.g. workshops at CHI 2012 and 2013. Featured in a New Scientist article 4/8/2010.
