<23>Originality: presents the mathematical framework and the implementation of the first non-linear finite element method on GPU using an explicit formulation. Significance: It enables real-time simulation of non-linear elastic models, which is critical for surgical simulation and image-guide surgery. This is the first paper using GPU for non-linear elasticity, opening a new paradigm for complex biomechanical simulation in real-time. An open-source package has been released, attracting over 1,000 downloads since October 2010. Rigour: it has been tested against theoretical models and commercial implementation (ABAQUS, ANSYS) showing the same accuracy than standard non-explicit formulation while being several orders of magnitude faster.
