<06>This paper appeared in SIGCOMM, the premier venue for networking research, ranked 3rd of 1578 publication venues in computer science (ArnetMiner). This work is first to show how multipath transport can greatly improve data centre network utilisation and fairness. It exposes a fundamental truth: TCP cannot effectively use the path diversity typically present in data centre network topologies. It shows that by harnessing this path diversity, multi-path TCP significantly outperforms TCP in real-world data centres. As a direct result of this research, Amazon instituted discussions with us on how to improve network performance in its EC2 data centre computing service.
