<26> The first paper to demonstrate that Laplacian filters can be used for edge-aware image processing, contrary to previous belief. The paper demonstrates that even extreme image enhancements can be applied without causing artifacts, such as halos or ringing. No per-image parameter tweaking is necessary. We have provided extensive comparisons using dozens of different photographs (yielding several hundred different renditions) showing that our method provides consistent results across all of them. The technique has already been incorporated into Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop (Camera Raw). It has been selected as a research highlight for an upcoming Communications of the ACM.
