Additional information

<28> Accurate measurements of tissue displacement in the breast under compression, not previously available for assessing biomechanical models. Originality and rigour: MR images of nineteen breast compressions were taken of 8 women, analysed and compared with the results of modelling. Impact: This has enabled generation and testing of novel, personalised, anisotropic biomechanical models (e.g. Han et al Phys Med Biol 2012). The work led to two EU FP7 programmes in diagnosis and surgical planning with Philips and other industrial partners, and an EPSRC project on image derived cancer risk.
