Additional information

<28> Motion models synchronised to the skin surface must be generated at each fraction of radiotherapy for lung cancer. Originality and rigour: Careful study design using 2800 cine CTs from 5 patients shows breathing patterns cannot be predicted from a single motion model. Impact: A negative but important result that has changed the development of technology in this area, resulting in sponsored research with VisionRT and Elekta. We have just published the first paper on a novel approach for simultaneous image reconstruction and motion model derivation using routinely acquired inter-fraction cone-beam CT (Martin et al Phys Med Biol 2013).
