Additional information

<22> Previously, simplistic logics based on “if, then” rules have been used to generate arguments and attacks. However, classical logic is more representative of real world knowledge and reasoning. This paper provides the first comprehensive study for using classical logic for instantiating abstract argumentation by giving postulates for attack and for acceptable sets of arguments. Foundational concepts and approaches introduced in this paper have been used by many others in follow-on work, for example, at University of Utrecht, CNRS, University of Maryland, Vienna University of Technology and the University of Leipzig.
