Additional information

This paper presents a novel methodology for predicting the collapse strength of ships, taking into account collapse modes which had not previously been considered. The research was funded by the US Office of Naval Research (Structural Performance of Aluminium Naval Vessels; reference N00014-07-1-0533; £241k). The methodology proposed is currently being incorporated into the Maestro ship design software used by the US Navy in its design processes and for use in vulnerability analysis (Maestro is maintained on behalf of the US Navy by DRS Design Solutions; contact: Tobin McNatt; tmcnatt@drs-c3.com).
