Additional information

This paper builds on previous work on progressive collapse [Dow2] by extending the analysis to consider the collapse of damaged girders. The resulting analysis is unique and outlines clear differences in the behaviour of damaged and undamaged girders arising from the built in stresses due to the damage mechanism. The research was funded by the US Office of Naval Research (Structural Performance of Naval Vessels; reference N00014-11-1-0650; £412k).
