Additional information

This output is the result of a collaboration with the University of Sannio in Italy in the framework of a line of research on the development of interface models for the analysis of crack propagation which account for friction but also other dissipating phenomena. The results presented in this article have also been presented by Dr Alfano in invited seminars at the Universities of Glasgow, Durham and Eindhoven.
