Functional composition in future networks
<04> This paper, originating from a collaborative effort between Lancaster University and the University of Sydney, and further developed within the European Commission FET project ANA (Autonomic Network Architectures), presents for the first time the principles of a Functional Composition Architecture and demonstrates its feasibility. Such an approach is viewed as being ahead of its time and is key to realising future flexible networks and autonomic network management. The insights are directly feeding into the recent network operators’ initiative of NFV (Network Functions Virtualisation) and, more generally, is proving to be significant in building resilience management into networked critical infrastructures.
