Additional information

An electrode-sample interfacial contact problem is identified which has a direct impact on electrical resistivity/conductivity measurements on concrete. The research also presents a testing protocol to negate this problem. This is of particular engineering importance as such measurements are being actively exploited in non-destructive testing of concrete and as a viable methodology is assessing the performance/durability of reinforced concrete [DOI:10.1016/j.acme.2012.10.007]. The international committee of RILEM (Réunion Internationale des Laboratoires et Experts des Matériaux), Technical Committee TC230:Performance-based Specifications and Control of Concrete Durability is currently evaluating a range of testing techniques which includes resistivity/conductivity test methods (http://www.rilem.org/gene/main.php?base=8750&gp_id=244).
