Additional information

<15> Originality: Presents an approach for natively compiling SQL queries for query processing, as opposed to SQL interpretation that has been used by database management systems for the past 30 years. SQL is the standard programming language of relational databases.

Significance: The approach at times outperforms established database technology by three orders of magnitude. It led to a successful application for a Microsoft Fellowship for incorporating this technology in the company's integrated querying offerings.

Rigour: The performance of the approach was experimentally compared to both industrial-strength systems and state-of-the-art research prototypes using standard database benchmarks.
