English abstract

This chapter outlines the development of Building Performance Evaluation (BPE) methodology in the UK in relation to new build and retrofit housing developments. A new diagnostic approach is then discussed which is used during the handover and early occupation stages of the building lifecycle. This approach was incorporated into two major national domestic BPE programmes in the UK in which the author was instrumental, both as an advisor and evaluator. The use of this approach is illustrated through a single case study. The findings are shown to have informed the latest government policies on BPE in the UK.
