Significance of output:

Flow batteries are being investigated for large-scale (grid stability and integration of renewable power sources) applications, however, significant challenges need to be overcome to progress new systems from bench to production scale. This is the first paper to demonstrate operation of a multi-cell soluble lead acid redox flow battery. The paper has subsequently been used in leveraging ARPA-E funding by General Atomic and University of California San Diego for development of the technology and building of a pilot plant (Aaron Sathrum, Aaron.Sathrum@ga.com)
