Significance of output:

This paper represents the start of a fruitful collaboration between Engineering and Medicine, which led directly to an 800k BBSRC multicentre grant (BB/I011250/1), applying an integrated systems biology approach to placental nutrient transport. This is important for countering fetal growth restriction, with increased risk of serious health implications in both early and later life.
