This paper develops the necessary mathematical preliminary theory for modeling movement of strongly sorbed solutes, such as P, in the soil. The importance of the necessity of this fundamental research for such an applied problem is highlighted by this paper being published in the highest ranking applied mathematics journal and contributes to the ongoing Defra policy management project.
