Significance of output:

This paper describes developments to one of the few models in the world for the coupled modelling of waste degradation, settlement, leachate chemistry and the transport of gas and liquid, and demonstrates the ability to model real landfill processes over a variety of scales. A new modularisation architecture has been implemented providing a suggested template for other authors of landfill models to adopt for the better sharing of model codes and results. This fulfils one of the key technical objectives of the Landfill Modelling Task Group (Chair: Dr John McDougall, Napier University) of the International Waste Working Group.
