Additional information

The paper presents the development and validation of new material models for use in the 'dynarat' model, a rail wear and crack initiation model developed at Newcastle, for simulating wear of new harder pearlitic rail steels. Samples of premium grade rail steels were provided by VoestAlpine and Tata Steel for testing and analysis. The paper presents a new method for simulating wheel-rail contact and derives a wear equation for standard rail steel track.
