Additional information

This paper presents a new manufacturing route for porous bioceramic structures, which is being further developed in two subsequent major collaborative research projects: the £5M Arthritis Research UK Tissue Engineering Centre (Award 19429; Newcastle funding £950k), and the €4M EC FP7 Collaborative Project Restoration (Resorbable Ceramic Biocomposites for Orthopaedic and Maxillofacial Applications; 280575; co-ordinated by Dalgarno; Newcastle funding €700k). In both cases the research reported in this paper was used as a key element of the case for support.
