The paper identified the limitations of existing approaches to hybrid modelling and focused on developing a methodology that aligned with the implementation of such models in industrial situations. The research resulted in a new approach which was shown to outperform current techniques. The research was undertaken as part of the EPSRC research project VERTIGO (Vertical integration of product development and manufacturing, GR/R64407/01; £507k), with industrial collaboration from Avecia and GSK Pharmaceuticals.
