English abstract

This article is a biographical sketch of Antonio Bertali (1605-1669), chapel master to Holy Roman Emperors Ferdinand III and Leopold I. Evaluating a wealth of hitherto unknown and/or neglected archival material, it sheds new light on this significant and prolific composer's early years in Verona, the reasons for his move across the Alps, as well as on his activities as teacher, composer, and chapel master in Vienna.
