This research stems from a real-world interdisciplinary collaboration between the following three fields: 3D computer animation, visual communication and patient interaction. This paper explores both a theoretical framework and pragmatic development of narrative driven computer animated works. A series of 3D CGI computer outputs probe how the artists and designers might build future visual narrative (in 3D CGI) in the area of cardiovascular disease.

It is note worthy that this early collaborative work and paper resulted in a successful grant bid to the Chief Scientist Office Scotland. The project ‘Development of Interventions to Increase Physical Activity Among Inactive Young People with Long-term Conditions: MRC Complex Intervention Framework Phase I Study using Asthma as an Exemplar’. Awarded in Dec 2011
