<13>This pioneering work is the first of its kind in optimization, proposing a novel bat algorithm for solving nonlinear constrained optimization problems by mimicking the echolocation characteristics of microbats, and has successfully solved constrained and unconstrained global optimization problems with important applications in design engineering. It is the journal version is of our original "bat algorithm" paper at NICSO2010 conference [which has been cited 104 times since 2010], and has been cited 36 since 2012 [Google Scholar]. It is a significant contribution and has opened a new area with about 170 research papers on this active topic in the literature.
