Additional information

Detailed modelling and simulation of the energy demand for heating and hot water systems in residential buildings has been conducted. This has led to a detailed understanding of the power requirements of ground-source heat pumps and enabled a thorough analysis of their effect on the electricity network in residential areas. The results show a significant effect of heat pumps on the electricity network and the study has an impact on heat policy. In particular, it has been used to support “Response from the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) to the Energy and Climate Change Committee’s Inquiry on Heat” (September 2013).
