Additional information

A novel approach to Radiation Hardening By Design (RHBD) of integrated circuits (IC) operating in harsh environments, for instance, space, is proposed. The importance of the approach is the reduction of power consumption in resulting circuits over existing techniques. Our experiments indicate the power consumption can be reduced by at least 50%. The technique is fully characterised via simulation and hardware testing based on manufactured asynchronous RHBD IC designs, using a 0.35 μm SiGe BiCMOS process. This research was sponsored by the US Air Force Research Laboratories (£100k).
