Additional information

Cross-directional control plays a major role in the papermaking and paperboard industries which contribute significantly to the UK and the world economy. The control strategies developed in the manuscript were tested on models from Iggesund Ltd. (Matthew.Taylor@iggesund.com) providing exceptionally good results: control performance is improved over conventional approaches while guaranteeing stability against known process uncertainty and input limitations. The paper is one of the first to successfully combine advanced theoretical control tools (IQC theory) on such a highly demanding industrial problem. The results are contributing in the development of similar control strategies for beam regulation requirements in synchrotrons.
