Additional information

This paper introduces the use of sequential Monte Carlo methods for the optimisation of aircraft routes. This is one of the first contributions in which simulation based methods are used to solve predictive control problems. This paper is the result of research carried out in the EU project iFly (FP7). The work of A. Lecchini-Visintini, related to air traffic control, contained in this and previous papers, lead to the beginning of international collaboration with researchers at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics - NUAA.
