Additional information

Our work on modelling and control of fluidic thrust vectoring and circulation control actuators, which replace conventional flight control surfaces (elevator, aileron and rudder) on aeroplanes, is part of FLAVIIR programme (a £6.9M project funded by EPSRC and BAE Systems, Phil.Woods@baesystems.com). This novel concept aeroplane was designed and built in the Programme and successfully flew during trial tests with flight control systems developed at Leicester. “The result … will be aircraft that are lighter and easier to maintain—and invisible to the enemy.”(“Blow me up, blow me down”, The Economist, October 2010)
