Additional information

Previously we proposed a risk stratification technique to reduce false-positives and false-negatives in the decision to implant a cardioverter-defibrillator. That technique is based on measurements of the duration of the heart’s action potentials. For this a robust detector of the exact timings of the repolarisation wave, based on external electrocardiograms, needs to be implemented. This paper describes such a detector and compares it with 2 alternative previously published detectors. Our system, with an error of the order of 3 ms, outperforms those and has been tested using paced beats, a challenge for any such tool.
