Additional information
Atrial fibrillation (AF) affects 1% of the British population, increasing to >10% for people over 60. The condition increases chances of stroke fivefold and costs the NHS more than £1bn per year. An effective cure for AF is catheter-based ablation of the abnormal heart areas, but for that to work the electrical activation of the atria needs to be cleaned from ventricle-based signals, a process called QRS subtraction for atrial electrograms. We have created a novel method for this 'cleaning' of the atrial signals and compared it to 2 alternative techniques suggesting the best of them for clinical use.
