Additional information

In this paper a novel multi-modal active stiffness controller is developed to suppress the dynamic response of long slender continua moving at speed in a tall host structure. This is a challenging nonlinear control problem. The proposed solution has attracted recognition from the international elevator industry and the work has been sponsored by ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG, a leading passenger transportation corporation. The work has informed the industry practice and the concept was awarded an international patent.
