Significance of output:

Fluidised beds are an important energy source yet essential optimisation is required to enhance future applications. Where previous fluidised bed simulations consider hydrodynamics and heat transfer modelling alone, the introduction of chemical reactions to a complex computational fluid dynamics is a huge progression in this field. The different stages of coal gasification are captured and the emissions are successfully validated with published experimental data. A new research area in fluidised bed modelling has been developed which focuses on emission control and was recognised by the Institute of Physics as a "significant contribution to combustion from an Early Career Researcher".
