Significance of output:

Nonlinear systems with quasi-zero stiffness are widely used in applications such as zero-gravity simulators and vibration isolators. This paper concerns the response of such systems to harmonic forcing with an additional static force. It is shown how the frequency response curves are dramatically influenced by the static force: the curves show between two and four jumps between different regimes, depending on the static force. Since jumps can have serious adverse effects, these results have consequences for the design and operation of such systems.
